Widgets are small applications that you install in the columns and footer of your Blog to give it various functionalities. Widgets are built into WordPress. You can add as many as you like by installing Plugins.

Other Widgets can be installed with WordPress Plugins, such as Flickr, Twitter, Delicious, RSS, or just about anything else that you can think of.
